The story of a photographer

Hey, I’m Emma — the face behind Smoked Rose Photography.

I was born in Perth but grew up in the country, where life was a little slower and there was always something beautiful to find in the everyday. I moved back to Perth when I was almost 16, but I think that love of the outdoors, natural moments and simple things has always stayed with me.

I fell in love with photography while I was still in high school. I loved capturing little moments and seeing the world through a different perspective, but it wasn’t until I had my first daughter that I truly dove headfirst into photography.

What started with taking endless photos of my own little family quickly became something I couldn’t imagine not doing.

For me, photography has never been about perfect poses or making everything look picture-perfect. I love the messy, silly, emotional and completely unplanned moments — the little things that actually make up your story.

Whether I’m photographing a growing family, a newborn, a special milestone, a couple, a celebration or simply you as you are, my goal is always the same: to create images that feel like you.

The kind of photographs you can look back on years from now and instantly be taken back to that exact moment.

I’m a big believer that your memories deserve to be captured — not just the perfect ones, but the real ones too.
